Introducing Eicom's HPLC-ECD system, HTEC-500

We Trimmed Excess Parts Normal HPLC pumps are not ideal for electrochemical detection. The EC detector is sensitive enough to detect pulsation from the pump and therefore, a pulse damper is required to reduce this noise. However, the pulse damper itself can cause problems. It requires more than 10 ml to replace the inside volume. This volume can contribute to contamination following long periods of storage or shipping, and can be a serious problem for detection. The pulse damper needs to be filled completely with mobile phase in order for the pressure to stabilize. It takes more than 5 minutes prior to running the ECD for the pressure to stabilize. If any old mobile phase remained in the system and entered to the new column, the upcoming analysis could be ruined. The presence of the pulse damper in the HPLC system was definitely not ideal. So we decided to remove the damper from our new HPLC system and adopted a new 4 µl replacement volume pump. This small binary pump has a computerized pulsation quenching technology. Once you start the pump, the pressure becomes stable in several seconds and the piston-stroke speed changes during each stroke in order to quench pulsation. You can see the spindle-shaped baseline noise will converge to a thin flat line within one minute. The dead volume between the piston and the column is less than 1 ml, making cleaning the line quick and easy. Heart of Sensitivity
Sensitivity is determined by the signal to noise ratio, not by signal intensity alone. For further details, see the ECD Fundamental page. The sensitivity of the HTEC-500 was achieved by two major aspects: 1. Innovative structure of the EC detector cell
2. Unique material of the graphite working electrode
Our distinctive detector cell does not require any tools to pack the working electrode diskette and therefore results in easy cell maintenance and set back to constant condition. The diskette of the working electrode is detachable, which allows for quick and easy manipulation. Pressurizing the system at a constant condition is as easy as flipping a switch. The cell volume/active surface area is easily changed with a spacer. This alleviates the need for preparing several back-up cells. The innovative structure of the detector cell covers all analytical applications regardless of the flow rate or required material of working electrodes. Moreover, glassy carbon electrodes are most commonly sold; however, our standard working electrode is molded graphite. The graphite yields a lower noise level and enhanced stability. Additionally, we use the latest digital technologies and have thoroughly optimized the entire system settings to enhance the sensitivity. Is this everything you need? We do not think so, keep reading to see how else Eicom provides advantages for our users.
