Microdialysis from A to Z

Microdialysis Syringe Pump, Fraction Collector  & Online Injector

Syringe Pumps

Model ESP-64

  • Excellent for microdialysis and microinjection.
  • Dual motor driven. Each motor carries a maximum of two syringes.
  • Precise flow controlled by a step motor, which does not pulsate upon liquid delivery.
  • A spring powered holder for the syringe and a clutch button on the piston arm allows for easy syringe installation.
  • The direction of the flow can easily be changed for push-pull methodologies.
  • Flow rate ranges and settings; minimum speed 0.1 nl/min for 10, 25 or 50 μl syringes, maximum speed of 99.99 μl using 1000, 2500 or 5000 μl syringes. Digital flow setting.  (A full push-pull system is provided. model EPPS-11.)
  • Preprogrammed for Hamilton Gastight 10, 25, 50, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 μl syringes.

  • Automatic motor stops at completion to protect the syringe.
  • Timer equipped.
  • Built-in RS232C external control interface.
  • Back light LCD
  • The step motor pump is considered a digital control pump. For example: to push out 1 μl volume from a 1 ml size syringe, the pulse is generated 1,800 times. (Step motor; 0.024 degree/pulse Maximum pulse 3000/second. Gear drive; 0.5 mm/360 degree rotation), this is very precise.

Fraction Collector, 96 well plate compatible

Model EFC-82

Sample collection is simple and efficient.

  • Easy to Use
  • X-Y layout of samples
  • 96 well plate or 500 µl sample vial capability
  • Cooling by the EFR-82

The Eicom Model EFC-82 was developed to collect microdialysis samples or other types of liquid samples, specially designed for low flow rates of approximately 0.1-10 μl/min. 500 μl tubes, placed in the X-Y layout or one covered 96 well plate are used to collect samples. Samples placed in the X-Y layout are easier to recognize than those in a carousel layout helping to avoid mistakes with sample handling. The availability of 96 well-plates reduces the time to label each vial and avoids other troublesome chores. The cooling unit, Model EFR-82 (code 302000), refrigerates the aluminum sample rack down to 4ºC without the use of coolant. Multiple sample sources are taken into consideration and at a maximum the Eicom EFC-82 has four dispensing needles moving simultaneously. The needles’ tip positions are adjustable to softly touch the bottom of the sample tubes, so it is even possible to collect 1 μl samples. Sampling time, the number of samples, and channels are easily set up by a simple key pad. Even complicated time programs can easily be set using this key pad, no PC is required. All liquid contact surfaces are made of Teflon or PEEK. Eicom always stresses simplicity and efficiency.

Online Autoinjector

Model EAS-20

  • Automated sample collection from microdialysis systems.
  • Automated sample injection to the HPLC.

The Eicom EAS-20 (code 321000) has dual functions; automated microdialysis sample collection, and an automated sample injection to the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). This allows for a totally hands-free analysis. The EAS-20 works well for the analysis of acetylcholine, catecholamines, glutamate, and other compounds that use HPLC-Electrochemical Detection (ECD) and do not require precolumn derivatization. Instead of using a fraction collector and autosampler, the sample is collected into the sample loop of a valve and then applied to the HPLC system. The valve then switches back to collect the next sample during the chromatographic analysis. Another advantage of using the online injector is that the data can be obtained immediately following the microdialysis sampling. The waiting period required to see the effect of a drug after administration is kept to a minimum. At the same time, the chance of auto-oxidation is also kept to a minimum because the samples are injected just after collection. The autoinjector generates electrical contact signals to communicate with the HPLC system from a maximum of three terminals. All programs can easily be set using a detachable keypad, and up to 9 files can be stored. The collection period should be adjusted to be slightly longer than the analysis time. Choosing fast analysis applications on the HPLC is very important to improve the throughput of microdialysis. High throughput HPLC-ECD applications are also available from Eicom.
The standard valve is Rheodyne 9725 (PEEK). A stainless steel made injector Rheodyne 7725 is also available as shown in the picture.
